We had my 2nd appointment today and overall it went really well. No u/s, but we were able to hear the heartbeat on the doppler, which was amazing! The baby's heart rate was 170! Yay! I have though gained 6 pounds in 4 weeks. I think I cried a little inside when I stepped on the scale, haha. Hopefully most of that is due to bloat!
My Dr. did inform me that I have A positive blood, with a M antibody. She said the M antibody is rare and does not know if it may cross over to the baby or not. She did not seem concerned, but has referred me to a Perinatologist. The nurse is supposed to call me back tomorrow with an appointment time. As she is telling me all this, I am telling myself not to freak out, don't freak out. Which I thankfully did not! :)
So... because I know nothing at all about blood types and antibodies, as soon as I came home I googled M antibodies. I wasn't so sure about googling this, as we all know sometimes that google is not your friend and can scare you with horror stories. Well, I am glad I did.
A little biology lesson for you, there are two varieties of M the antibody: IgM and IgG. IgM is the more common one and will not cross over. IgG is the rarer variety can pass over. If I have the IgG variety, I would basically need my blood drawn monthly to make sure the antibody levels don't get too high. Too high and it can be harmful to the baby.
Hopefully, I have the IgM variety and we have nothing to worry about. There are a lot of if's and what not and there is no point in getting worried about it now. I will for sure keep you all updated though!
Next up, telling work that I am pregnant! I will be going out on maternity leave during our most busiest time of year. I am sure they will love hearing that! I think I will be telling my boss tomorrow. Ahhhhh!

YEA!!!! Isn't it awesome to hear the heartbeat? I am so happy for you guys...and so excited about being an aunt! I will be praying for you in regards to the blood antibody thing and also you telling your boss tomorrow! Phew!
Isn't the heartbeat amazing?
Good thoughts for your blood tests!
I love seeing a Perinatologist. The extra attention is awesome, and I bet you'll get an ultrasound when you go. :)
Try not to worry. It's all good. And as for the weight gain, 6 lbs is nothing and you'll be glad you did it when your baby is nice and healthy!
Yay for a great appointment! The 1st time I heard Sarah's h/b I cried!
Which perinatologist are you going to see? I saw one for the last 1/2 of my pregnancy and it was the best thing...you'll be in great hands and you will both be constantly monitored. It's a good thing!
