Random Fridays Thoughts

~ My vacuum decided to stop working properly on me the other day. I guess it's time for a new one. This one lasted me 6 long years. In vacuum lives, I don't know if that's a long time or not. But it cleaned my college dorm room, my first apartment and now our first place. I will be sad to see it go, but I am looking forward to having a new spiffy one in it's place!

~ I picked up a basil plant from Trader Joes. I am already looking forward to using it this summer in salads. A favorite that I love to make is a tomato, cucumber and basil salad, with a balsamic dressing. Oh yumm!

~ I left work yesterday feeling great, but 4 hours later I felt horrible. I have come down with cold and it sucks, especially right before the weekend. Our plans to go to Disneyland tomorrow may be thrown out the window and instead I may just spend the weekend sleeping.

~ I was driving to the bookstore, the other day on my lunch and I passed a place that is quite unique for it's surroundings. I have meant to mention it before, but I have always forgotten to. Anyways, in the middle of quite a built up area, there is a "Drive thru Egg Store". Hmmmm... interesting. I had never seen a drive thru egg store in California, let alone all my years growing up in the Midwest. How does a place like that stay in business this day and age, especially in Southern California?

~ Since it's now summer, I think I need to change up my blog layout. I'm not feeling my current one anymore. I need something light and fresh. Maybe, I can work on that this weekend considering I am sick and probably won't be leaving the house.

Anyways, I hope everyone has a great weekend!

To sparkle or not, Twilight vs. Sookie Stackhouse

As much as I love the Twilight movie, there are definitely some parts of it that are super cheesy. The sound effects for when Edwards sparkles and the sparkles themselves, are by far the worst. For all you non Twilighters, Edward sparkles when out in the sun and of course they had to ruin the moment with this cheesy twinkling noise. Other aspects were ruined as well, but that is whole other topic that should be left for discussion for another day.

Anyways, I was on the Nest the other day and noticed a nestie (someone who posts on the nest) with a siggy (signature) that just made me laugh. Background: The Sookie Stackhouse series has been made into an HBO series called True Blood. In this series, the vampires do not sparkle while in the sun, in fact they can't be in the sun at all as they will burn. I know I am starting to sound crazy with all this talk about Vampires and sparkling, but I swear I am not!

Back to the nesties siggy, she had a picture of Bill and Erik and it says, "Bill and Erik do not approve of vampires that sparkle". Oh, how I laughed. It just made my day.

Here is her siggy:

Sookie wins this round!

Oh and I promise I won't post anything Twilight related for the rest of the week.

Nothing Exciting

I haven't blogged recently since there hasn't been much going on in our little world. Well, at least nothing I thought you all would be interested in reading. Thus, the lack blogging on my end. I have spent most of my time, well ok I admit all of my time reading. Which, I have thoroughly been enjoying though.

I have worked my way through the first 7 books of the Sookie Stackhouse series. I finished the last one that I own last night. I am so glad that I purchased the box set. I was able to just go straight from one book and on into the next one. So very nice. I am thinking that I want to go buy the next book, From Dead to Worse tonight or even on my lunch today, hehe. Oh the joys of having a huge shopping center right down the road from my work!

Weekend Highlights

I had a pretty good weekend, considering that I was home by myself. David has spent the last several days in South Dakota, filming the Harvest Crusade. He flies home today, Yay!

Friday night, I had sushi with an old coworker of mine. It was nice to catch up and eat some yummy food. Thanks Heather! Saturday, I slept in till around 11:30. It was heaven. I then dragged my butt out of bed and went and got a pedicure. It was so relaxing. While at the nail salon, I did see an elderly gentlemen, who was probably in his 80's, getting a manicure. Totally, awesome!

I then headed over to Border's to pick up the first book for the Sookie Stackhouse series and I ended up leaving with the set because it came out to be cheaper and I got a $10.00 gift card. Yep I know, I probably should not have bought them all, considering I didn't even know if I would like series. I couldn't help myself though, especially when it comes to a good deal. And it wasn't like the series wasn't highly recommended.

So, I went home and was going to start the series, but ended up watching Twilight again, ha ha! I passed out on the sofa towards the end of the movie. On sunday, I did end up reading the first book, Dead until Dark and I really enjoyed it! Not anywhere near as good as the Twilight series, but I could not put it down. I ended up reading all of the first book last night.

So all in all, it was a good weekend. This morning, I woke up feeling rested and ready to take on the week. I also can't wait to see the hubby!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

New Shoes

I went shoe shopping on my lunch break today. For awhile now, I have been looking for some new black pumps for work. The pair that I currently have are a little out dated.

I ended up at Nordstrom Rack. I have no clue why I didn't try there a long time ago. They always have great shoes for work at awesome prices. I ended up walking out of the store with these

BCBG pumps for $40.00. That's $50.00 saved!

The Twilight Widower

Thanks to the lovely gals on the Nest, I came across this blog: Twilight Widowers Anonymous. I immediately sent the hubby the link to it. I am sure he will open his inbox and just shake his head. He's probably shaking his head right now while reading this blog post.

Anyways, my husband has unfortunately become a "Twilight Widower". Because of my Twilight obsession, I have severely neglected the house and him during this process. My poor substitute for meals has been shameful. He has commented on several occasions, about the smirk on my face, while I have been glued to my laptop. I don't need to respond, as he already knows the answer.

Thankfully, he has been very understanding of my addiction, so when I came across that blog, I hoped he could get a good laugh out it. Here is the Twilight Widower's about me section:
Twilight Widower
I am one among a growing legion; an overly indulgent "significant other" who looked the other way while this Vampire Pretty Boy moved in on my woman.
In his blog he goes on to talk about the 5 stages of the Five stages of Twilight-Widower-Grief (Suspicion, Denial, Anger, More Anger, Complacency). I think the hubby might be in between Suspicion and Denial.

"I myself have gone through these stages.

Suspicion ("Honey? Are you watching Twilight again?" and "Did you just call me 'Edward'?")

Denial ("I'm sure it's just a phase. I don't mind ironing her work clothes.")

Anger ("No, I am not making mushroom ravioli again!")

More Anger ("No, we are not buying tickets for the Twilight cruise!")

Complacency ("Here, honey, I printed up Midnight Sun and bound it for you. Now you won't get eyestrain.")

Now that I have resigned myself to the role of complacent Twilight Widower, I have discovered that despite the seemingly endless neglect us Twi-Widowers often endure, there are some surefire ways to get the wife to pay attention to you (albeit for a few sweet, brief minutes until the latest New Moon news is posted).

Here is my advice to you, fellow long-suffering spouse:

1. Whenever talking to her, try to sneak the words "Robert Pattinson" into your sentences. She will immediately perk up and give you her undivided attention.

(I have found this method to be particularly effective when discussing responsibility for household chores.)

2. Use pillow hair to your advantage. Tell her you are going for an "Edward Look."

3. Piggyback her around your local park and tell that she's your own personal brand of heroin. Never mind the stares – it will all be worth it when you get home.

4. Buy body glitter. The next time you are in the mood to "reap the benefits," apply liberally. (Note: It is useful to have a Handivac for the sheets afterwards.)

5. Read the Wikipedia summary of the Twilight Series, so you can pretend that you have read the books yourself. When "discussing" them, just nod sagely when she describes parts omitted in the summary.

6. When in bed, place your cold feet on the small of her back. Tell her "I bet this is how she felt on their wedding night." (Results may vary.)

7. Secretly disconnect your modem. When she begins to panic about the loss of up-to-date Twilight news, heroically restart the modem (after several false starts and mock exasperation on your part; you have to make her believe this is hard work for you). Reap benefits.

8. Start a Twilight blog yourself. Ask her for "input" regularly.

And just remember: Barring another book getting published, this whole obsession is bound to peter out in about three year's time. I'm counting the days.

Go Team Widower."

If your Twilight obsessed as well, go take a look his blog. I am sure you will have a good chuckle.

Random Thoughts

Here are some random thoughts of mine:

~ Work has gone totally overboard with the whole Swine Flu. I seriously think we have enough hand sanitizer, that you don't need to order more.

~ Even though the Angels were killed last night, the game was still fun though.

~ My outfit that I wore to work yesterday, some would probably say it didn't match. I guess it's time I finally did some laundry.

~ Secretly, I am looking forward to the weather being hot this weekend, even though I don't have air conditioning in my car. I am ready for shorts!

~ The hubby has been using my IPod lately and put his music on it. I was listening to it this morning on the way to work and a song came on, that just so happened to be from the Twilight soundtrack, that I have wanted to download. Totally made my morning!

~ I am hoping that we will have time to go to the Farmers Market on Saturday morning. I haven't been in forever. I like supporting the local farmers.

~ I can't believe Allison was voted off American Idol. She was my 2nd favorite and the last girl. I shouldn't complain though, because I never vote. Adam Lambert need to go though!

Batter Up

Tonight, the hubby and I will going to an Angel's game with another couple. This is my first game of the season and I am looking forward to going. I have fond memories of going to Cub's games when I was younger. I do love seeing the Angels play, but the Cub's still hold a special place in my heart. Sorry David!

Now, I am not an avid fan. I don't like to sit and watch it on TV and I don't keep track of who's playing well and who isn't. But, I do love to go an experience a baseball game. I love the sounds, the excitement and having hot dog! Oh and you can't forget the cotton candy! :)

One thing that I do want to do this year, is go to a day game. All of the games I went to when I was younger, were during the day and for some reason I just enjoy them more than night ones. I have mentioned this to the hubby several times and the response back is always, "It will be too hot in the sun." What kind of response is that? Not every day is going to be hot. Yes, of course if you go during August or Sept. Bah! Hopefully, I can finally convince him to go to one this year. Maybe if I bug him enough he will agree to it.

Weekend in Review

Considering David was gone for several days filming and I missed him a lot, I still had a pretty good weekend. Last week was definitely so so. I was in a funky mood all week and the fact that David was gone didn't really help. I'm not really sure what my issue was, as I am not normally an emotional person. I know part of it was because I finished the Twilight series, along with some other stuff.

Anyways, by the end of the week I was really looking forward to the weekend. I finished Midnight Sun and then threw myself into some Twilight fan fiction. I spent most of the weekend reading, which was very relaxing. I also had lunch with Kristy on Saturday and took pictures of her little girl, who by the way is so previous. It was good to just be able to vent about my frustrations, even though I am sure she doesn't understand my Twilight obsession, hehe.

So all in all it was a good weekend. I picked the hubby up from the airport yesterday night. Walking into the airport definitely made me want to go on vacation though. Sigh... that won't be for awhile, since I have 4 hours of vacation time accumulated. What's up with the construction industry only giving you a week of vacation time the first year? I have been told this is pretty common, it was like that at my old job as well. Currently, the plan is to go to Chicago for Christmas, as I will have saved up some time by then. We shall see though.

Hope you all had good a weekend though and the week goes by quickly!
